What to Look For in a Marketing Agency for Contractors
A lot of contractors have tried working with a marketing agency at some point and walked away unimpressed — vague reports, leads that never got called, or a campaign that quietly stopped working with no explanation. That experience makes people cautious, and fairly so.
A few things are worth checking before you sign up with anyone:
Do they actually work in your industry? A generic marketing agency running the same playbook for restaurants, dentists, and contractors usually doesn't understand what makes a coating or epoxy lead different from any other kind of lead.
Can you see what's happening with your leads? You should be able to see how many leads came in, how fast they were contacted, and how many turned into booked estimates — not just a vague "brand awareness" report.
What happens after someone fills out a form? This is the part that gets skipped most often. Ads can bring in interest, but if nobody follows up quickly, that interest disappears. Ask exactly what happens in the minutes after a lead comes in.
Do they have any proof, even from one client? You don't need a wall of testimonials, but you should be able to see a real example of the system actually working somewhere.
If an agency can answer those four questions clearly, that's usually a good sign. If they can't, it's worth asking why.
